Questions organizers ask
Is SilentBid really free?
Yes. Any auction with up to 15 items is free — no credit card, no trial period, and no ads on your auction page. If you need more room, it's a one-time $29 CAD (up to 50 items) or $79 CAD (up to 150 items) for that event. Never a subscription.
What happens if I need more than 15 items?
Upgrade that one auction from its dashboard at any time — even after it's live. You pay once for that event, and your items, bids, and link all stay exactly as they are.
How do winners pay?
SilentBid never handles money, so there are no transaction fees. When bidding closes, every winner gets an email and you get a PDF and CSV report of who won what. You collect however your organization already does — e-Transfer, cash, cheque, or a card reader.
Do bidders need an app or an account?
No. Guests scan the QR code on your poster or type the 4-letter auction code at silentbid.ca, and bid in their phone's browser. Their first bid asks for a name, email, and phone number so you can reach them if they win.
Can I run it at an in-person event?
Yes — that's how most organizers use it. Print the QR poster for your tables, and on Pro put the live total, latest bids, and countdown up on a projector. You can also run it entirely online for up to 90 days.
What stops someone sniping an item at the last second?
Anti-sniping. A bid in the final few minutes keeps that one item open a little longer, capped at five minutes past the closing time, so the highest bidder wins rather than the fastest one.
What if a winner doesn't pay?
You can void their bid from your dashboard, and the next-highest bid moves to the top of your report so you can offer the item to that bidder instead.
Is SilentBid only for Canadian organizations?
No. SilentBid was built in Toronto and plans are priced in Canadian dollars, but any school, club, team, or charity can use it, wherever they are. Your auction can show bids in dollars ($), British pounds (£), or euros (€).
